Charley Barker, of Neosho, MO, summarized The Adventures of Annie Mouse: Baby Brother Goes to the Hospital in the following verse:

    Saving Billy

    Annie Mouse was all upset

    Her life just came apart

Mom and Daddy were so mean!

The thought just broke her heart.

    Baby brother Bill turned blue

    Had a big "Op-ra-shun"

    No word of explanation

    Confusing situation.

    "Billy can't come home?"

He's tied down in a cage!

    Annie to the rescue

    She flew into a rage.

    Her guardian angel rescued HER.

    For angels make things right

And in a loving nurse's arms

    Annie slept away the night.

If you're ever at the George Washington Carver Historical Site, near Joplin,MO, stop in and say "HI" to Charley.  Not only is the Monument a National treasure, so is Charley!  I am deeply grateful for the gift of poetry he has blessed me with!

Annie Mouse is a shy, quiet mouse with many brothers and sisters.  Mommy has so much to do to keep the household running and Annie does not understand her mother's frustration.  She believes her mommy does not like HER.  Annie asks her Guardian Angel for help when her mother yells.  She also begins to help her mother with the chores instead of running and hiding when her mother yells.

    REVIEWS AND FEEDBACK FROM READERS

    • An email received on October 27, 2007 following the New Castle, PA Mothers of Preschoolers Business and Craft Fair:

Hi Miss Anne, it's me that little ten year old girl you met at the Craft Fair.  I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed the books and I know that the other kids will enjoy them too.  Thank you so much for letting me read them.  They are very good books and that all the other kids should know about them.  They were very enjoyable for me.  I really liked them alot.  I also think you should write more books so that they catch on.
    Sincerely,
    Lexi H.
